  • FANAF: FANAF CELEBRATES ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY AND REAFFIRMS ITS LEADING ROLE IN THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE AFRICAN INSURANCE SECTOR.

The 50th General Assembly of the Federation of African National Insurance Companies (FANAF) was held from 9 to 11 February 2026 in Abidjan, marking the start of the organisation’s 50th-anniversary celebrations under the theme: ‘Building the future of African insurance’. The opening ceremony highlighted the need for a far-reaching transformation of the sector, which faces growing climatic, economic and technological challenges, whilst reaffirming the strategic role of insurance in the financing and resilience of African economies.

This edition concluded with the election of Mamadou Koné from Côte d’Ivoire as president of the organisation, succeeding César Ekomie-Afeneun from Gabon. The new president intends to drive a strategic shift by transforming FANAF into a proactive platform for innovation, growth and modernisation within the sector. At a pivotal moment for the market, the key challenges centre on accelerating digitalisation, expanding insurance coverage and ensuring the inclusion of populations that remain underinsured, with a view to building a more accessible, innovative and sustainable African insurance sector.
