The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group and the OCP Group signed, on 22 May 2026 in Rabat, an agreement for a partial credit guarantee of \u20ac450 million. This financial mechanism is designed to support the deployment of the 2023-2030 investment programme of the world leader in phosphate fertilisers, focused on industrial decarbonisation, sustainable water management, and the integration of renewable energy. This transaction enables Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 G\u00e9n\u00e9rale and BNP Paribas to mobilise a green financing package totalling \u20ac530 million. These resources are specifically intended to support the industrial and energy projects planned by the Moroccan group, whilst facilitating access to long-term capital from international institutions.<\/p>\n
This is the first operation of its kind carried out in Morocco, illustrating the growing use of climate finance instruments by multilateral banks. This initiative forms part of the AfDB's strategy relating to large-scale capital mobilisation and the development of resilient, value-creating infrastructure across the African continent. The agreement enables the AfDB's AAA financial rating to be leveraged to accelerate low-carbon fertiliser production. Both parties present these investments as essential strategic levers for strengthening food security across the African continent.<\/p>\n
